Upon receiving my new computer a couple days ago, I proceeded to start loading my "stuff" onto it, and that includes installing pimpfish and copying over my 1cpg.key file.

Lo and behold, today when I tried to grab a file, I was given a shocking message which told me I couldn't do that any more, that I'd have to enter my name and serial number into some obscure something or other. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THESE VALUES ARE OR WHERE TO FIND THEM!! (Okay, I know my names, but not which one I used.) I also don't know under which email address I signed up, or I'd send this question via that, and I don't have the original email either.

Why oh why am I no longer allowed to do something I found incredibly convenient, nay, incredibly necessary since I was told I wouldn't NEED that other info since I had this dandy key I could just drop into place?

I tried examining the key with notepad, to see if maybe that info was stored there in an unencrypted format so I wouldn't have to scold you people like this.

So, can I please see a return of necessary functionality?

Please?

Please?

Hi Bystander!

Thanks for writing in - Well of course you can get your license information "returned to good standing" - Simply write to us at support at zabersoft dot com with your name, and when you registered (if you can remember)

Then we would dig up your serial - which is in fact just your order number from Shareit - and your username - which is the name you used when you bought the license. And finally we'd instruct you to simply type that info into the PimpFish activation dialog. (Control->Activate PimpFish)

We dropped the 1cpg key format even before PimpFish 2006 - But up untill now we kept that functionality in the app so that both methods of activation were possible. Now that it had been so long since a 1cpg keyfile had been "sold", we removed that functionality entirely in PimpFish 2007.

I apologize for any inconvenience!!

Kind regards,

I hve since figured out why I have had this problem: even though I installed the old pf2006 installer, it instead downloaded pf2007, which is clearly beyond my subscription. I tried it out for a while on a loaner computer, and found that the spidering leaves a lot to be desired, so when I had my computer returned to me, I attempted to install the program for which I should be able to run indefinitely, rather than the new version.

When I tried using my 1cpg.key with pf2007 on the loaner, I seem to recall being told that my key had expired, so I was stuck clicking on START innumerate times from the very start. But this time, it didn't say that.

However, the reason I know pf2007 is on this computer instead of what I intended to install is because I got a "would you like to spider these inconsiderate morons?" kind of requester at some point, a feature not in pf2006.

I really detest typing in unlock codes; it's like being punished for being honest, and almost everyone makes you do it, making it a PITA when doing reinstalls, which I do a lot more often than most people. A lot of them are as anoying as possible, preventing even copy+paste from working. Dropping a single file into a single spot was only half as annoying, but at least it was novel enough that I didn't mind it so much.

So, this is two problems now: I can't drop my key into the folder, and when I installed, the installer installed the wrong program - the right one wouldn't've been a problem. I'll brood inconsolably on this for a while, then probably send you an email.
