Just wondering does it contact home for any reason?? or are there any settings which need to be looked at ( the installation screen had a mention of " something benign .......... and if one were paranoid one could disable that function ...........") if I'm not mistaken ..........

Hi Tomcat,
Yes PimpFish periodically "checks home" to see if there are any updates to the application, and whether it needs to report any application errors back to us. This action is however only run immediatly after the PimpFish downloader runs once a day, and usually only takes a few seconds to complete.
So overall, PimpFish does not consume any bandwidth when idle in your tray.
You can turn off these functions by going to the Troubleshooting options page.
Thanks!
