We've been reasonably busy in the Zabersoft camp these last few weeks and we are finally ready with yet another release of PimpFish. We are crankin' out that code like mad these days (as you - without a doubt - already noticed) So read on through and see what's new will ya :)

New PimpFish v2006.3 released! Get it now!

Yep. A new version is out. This time we haven't just improved things "under-the-hood" but also added some nice new touches to the downloader and the overall appearance of the thing. Furthermore we have laid some more ground-work for our upcoming tighter integration with our SLAPfiles concept. What this means is that we are planning to do an automated extension system so you will no longer have to go to a seperate page to grab special video such as Youtube.com or google video. In the future this will all happen automatically!
There's a lot of stuff to look forward to kids, but for now let's see what's new in the current version shall we....

All the sweet details... What's new anyway?

General
* Added some technical stuff to the SLAPfile XML standard which means that we can create better working tools. This update fixes the YouTube SLAPfile overwrite problem. So if you update to this version then our YouTube SLAPfile tool should work a lot better for you.
* Fixed up the gallery generator so now picture galleries are more light-weight, (use a static CSS file now) is FireFox compatible and mostly bug-free
Toolbar
* Toolbar will now look for picture/movie file names in the query string portion of links. This means that we have made yet another improvement in how the toolbar looks at webpages and what links/images/movies it decides to grab. This should knock a few % off our error margin.
FloatBar
* Fixed bug where grabbing stuff from HTTPS pages would fail
* Misc. tools button now on per default for FB for images
Downloader
* Added Compute Hash of This File to context menus in the download list. Right-click a downloaded file to try it out. This will come in handy so you can post file hashes when you share stuff and people can then verify that they got the right data. Already now you can use this feature for something practical if you use PimpFish to download norton antivirus updates for example (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html)
* Added ability to drag from the download list. If all selected files have been downloaded, you can drag into any window that also accepts drag/drop from Explorer. This means that you can now drag movie or picture files (for example) directly from the download list to your favorite viewer application!
* Added more menu bitmaps. Looks nice. You'll see :)
* Fixed bug where downloading a file to a root directory would fail.
* After adding a URL to the download list, downloader saves the directory name in the registry.
* Added 410 (file gone) error handling to the downloader, so it won't try to download those files again.

In our last newsletter we called out for people to help us out with bumping up our rating at download.com (which we believe is very critical in these early stages) - And we must say it was a complete success!
Well, actually only a small percentage of people out there took the time to rate us. This could mean two things: 1) People are lazy? or 2) Not all of you actually read our newsletter. But that's OK - We just write these darn things to feel good about ourselves anyway ;)
Anyhoo... That was not what I wanted to say really. The bottom line is: Thanks to all those who took the time to rate us and hook us up with kind words and goodness! And of course if you haven't rated us yet then the offer still stands - You can get yourself a free license/update in exchange!
Anyway, maybe I should fill you all in on the near-future developments here at Zaber these days. First of all then soon-ish we will (hopefully) get through all our problems with the SLAPfile forum and get all that stuff sorted out. At the moment we are even looking for a dedicated forum administrator who will keep things loaded with fresh content and keep things orderly. We are looking forward to all that stuff and hopefully things will be up and running sooner rather than later.
Also, we will be starting our next development cycle soon on the next big version which we hope to release around the time the new Windows Vista gets released. We are hoping to put in some neat Vista-specific stuff in there and take advantage of their new sidebar feature. But let's see how all that pans out.
And finally there will be a lot of other items coming up in the near future, such as the long-awaited hard-copy version of PimpFish which you will get at a ridiculously low price.
