Grabbing Video from PimpFish Certified Sites

Some websites are Certified to work with PimpFish. This means, that if a site has been Certified we have done some additional work to ensure that when you hit the grab button in the PimpFish Toolbar - you will get the video you were viewing in your browser.

You can tell whether a website is a Certified Site by the Certified Site button turning green as seen here:

Certified sites are websites such as YouTube, Google Video, Apple.com/trailers, and many others that require special processing as the media content is "protected" in one way or the other from download using our regular grab movies command in the PimpFish toolbar.

Websites are certified by Zabersoft programmers and the list of Certified sites is kept updated on your system automatically. What all this means is that we constantly add new sites to our ever-growing list of Certified websites. And in this way, giving you a better product automatically!

When a website is Certified, you can easily tell which grab command will work with the site by expanding the Grab! menu and finding the green orb. Simply click the grab command with the green orb, and PimpFish will grab the media content on the page!

Certified Sites works with Spidering as well, so if you are viewing a page with many links to videos you want to grab (say for example a playlist page on Youtube) you can use the Follow Links on This Page And... Grab Movies grab command to spider the page in question.

Viewing and Updating the Certified Sites list in the PimpFish Downloader

Usually your Certified Sites list is kept updated automatically by PimpFish and you never have to worry about it. Sometimes support for a Certified Site may break before you receive an updated Certified Sites list from us. In this case, you may encounter an error message when downloading from such a site. This error will direct you to update your Certified Sites list or Video Downloader Plugins (as we once used to call them).

In cases like these, you should manually check for updates to your Certified Sites list, by clicking on View --> Certified Site List in the PimpFish downloader. The Certified Site List will now update automatically and display a list of all currently Certified Sites:

In the Certified Site List dialog you will see a message indicating whether or not your Certified Site List was updated, or whether you have the most up-to-date version of the list.

We certify video websites by writing specialized PHP scripts, which we call Video Downloader Plugins, that run on our server. This essentially means that all the grabbing magic which happens when you grab something from a Certified Site happens on our webservers, not on your local computer. Your local machine handles all the actual downloading, however.
